Ready, Set, Compliance

February 10, 2023

Abydians are competitive – it’s in our nature. And we’re not sure if that’s because we have an abundance of former athletes on our team or if we all speak the same language. But if there’s one thing we know for sure, sports are part of our culture and a big reason for our success. Enough about us, what can you learn from the Super Bowl?

First up is leadership. And not just the team captains, but those that demonstrate their innate ability to lead off the field as well. Is the third-string player getting to the weight room an hour before everyone else? Is the defensive tackle volunteering during his only off time? These men are role models for more than just their team – their community, the employees of their organization, and the millions of fans watching them. By taking on the role of OSHA Safety Officer or HIPAA Compliance Officer, you automatically step into a leadership role. And for that, we sincerely applaud you! You believe in the safety, health, and privacy of your employees and your patients. This job probably wasn’t part of your initial job description, so we admire your efforts and commitment to your practice.

Can you imagine getting slammed into the ground over and over again for 60 minutes straight? Let’s talk about resilience. What does it mean to you? We are honored to say practices that work with us have a 100% audit pass rate. But even more, we are proud of those practices for bouncing back and their compliance program being stronger than ever. It’s easy to give up with five minutes left on the clock and down a couple of scores. (Did anyone see the Jags comeback during playoffs this year?!) But the true test of a team, or your practice, is how you bounce back. There are only lessons learned and opportunities to get better.

All hands in, on three… teamwork! If there’s one thing we know about compliance it’s that it involves everyone. From training to ongoing compliance through maintaining logs and current policies, the best way to ensure that your practice is compliant is to know everyone is on board. In order to pass an audit or investigation with flying colors, you must maintain a culture of compliance. And the best way to do so is to have the full buy-in from your staff. So bust out those pom poms and give us your best cheer! While we hope you’re never up against an OSHA violation, for example, a needlestick. When tempers are flaring, it’s not just about making good reads on the field. A team that works as one and has invested their energy into all things compliance will be able to call the right audible and work their way through any situation.

You’ve probably heard of an award-winning movie called The Blind Side. (And if you haven’t, add it to the list – Sandra Bullock is exceptional in it!) We will skip the synopsis and fast forward to the main character, Michael Oher, who plays left tackle for his high school. For those who don’t know the specifics about football, since most QBs are right-handed, they naturally turn their bodies in that direction to read the field and make plays. Their “blind side” becomes exposed and that’s where Michael Oher comes in – to protect the QBs blind side. You can think of Abyde as your left tackle – we help prepare your practice for potential threats. And believe it or not, the left tackle wasn’t always an important role on the field. Now, it’s one of the most prestigious positions and on some teams is the highest-paid position beside the QB. Are you making the connection yet? Our value as your compliance partner goes far beyond our “position” on your team. We are your unsung hero!

Whether you’re tuning in for the commercials, patiently waiting to see Rihanna for the halftime show, or you’re a diehard Eagles fan *yuck*, the Super Bowl tops the list for most watched television events across the board. We hope that while your fingers are covered in wing sauce and you’re singing along to Rihanna’s greatest hits, some of this resonates with you. Thanks for tuning in!
